Born
13th June 1955 in Bristol.
From an early age, Nigel’s interest in music was obvious and
commenced with him playing in local brass, pop and dance bands. In
1976, NIgel moved to London in response to job offers as conductor,
arranger and record producer. From
this Nigel became producer and keyboard player for the jazz funk band
Shakatak, who with Nigel at the production helm, went on to score a string
of hit singles and albums through the eighties, selling millions
worldwide. During the band’s success Nigel left as a musician to
pursue his career as a record producer. Hits
followed from the likes of Imagination, Mirage, Yell, Sonia and Take That,
to name but a few. Following
a quirky pop collaboration, with hit musical producer Andrew Lloyd Webber
(Bombalurina’s ITSY BITSY TEENY WEENY YELLOW POLKA DOT BIKINI – a UK
No. 1). Nigel progressed to
co-produce all of Andrew’s Cast and Pop Albums, commencing with JOSEPH
AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, which spawned another of Nigel’s
No. 1 singles ANY DREAM WILL DO for Jason Donovan, and followed with SUNSET BOULEVARD and
STARLIGHT EXPRESS. Other
projects at this time included the cast album for GREASE, the 1992
BARCELONA OLYMPICS theme for Jose Carreras and Sarah Brightman, and
recording SUNSET BOULEVARD songs for Barbra Sreisand and Elaine Paige.
The latter half of the nineties saw a continued hit rate, producing
albums for Jose Carreras, Robson & Jerome, Michael Ball, Maria
Friedman, The Woolpackers and most recently Steven Houghton. At
this point, Nigel’s talents also took a further expansion into TV and
film. Firstly with the hit TV
drama AIN’T MISBEHAVIN’ for Robson Green and Jerome Flynn for which
Nigel wrote and produced the score, and quickly followed with Alan
Parker’s hit movie EVITA on which Nigel produced the film soundtrack as
well as the album with Madonna, Jimmy Nail and Antonio Banderas.
This gave Nigel a BAFTA nomination and EVITA a nomination for Best
Sound. In addition Nigel
produced SHOOTING STAR for Boyzone from the Disney film HERCULES. Current
production projects include; SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER (and orchestrator), CATS
the video, the film SLEEPING BEAUTY for BBC TV and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s
show WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND. |
